This was a quick little project I made the other day…a braided fabric bracelet! It’s relaxed, pretty, and soooo easy to make!
I’ll show you how I did it, but be warned…I don’t stop and measure much, so it’s all kind of an estimate. LOL!
Here’s what I started with…
Take 3 strips of fabric about 2” x 15” long {each} and sandwich them around the cotton cording.
Sew it as close to the cord as possible all the way down. It can be crooked or not that close…no worries.
Trim it and pull some strings out to fray the edges a bit…I love that frayed look!
Cut a 2 inch square for the end. Fold the top and bottom to the center, and then fold it in half with the three strands inside. Pin it so it doesn’t move!
Sew around the edges and start braiding…tightly!
When you reach the end measure it around your wrist. Subtract about an inch and trim the strands.
Finish the end just like the first one. We’re moving right along now, aren’t we? It’s really a fast project!
Take a strip of fabric about 1” x 5” and fold it in half, lengthwise.
Sew and fray the edges.
Cut it in half and wrap it with the end like in the photo above. Secure it with a pin. Sew along the top and bottom to make the strip secure. This is one of those spots where your sewing machine could have a hard time because it’s so thick. Just take it slow. It’s worth it!
There you have it…a braided fabric bracelet!
It’s ready to wear, or you can dress it up a bit with this…
a linen flower! Use a button to start and cut four or 5 messed up circles around it. Sew the button in the center.
And fray those edges…linen frays so nice, don’t you think?
Sew it on the bracelet in the center or off to one side.
See how fast you can make it! Now you have time to sit back, relax, and enjoy…
a glass of Sangria on the back porch! Ha!
This is just one more way to use up some of those colorful fabric scraps you’ve been saving up! And I didn’t have to make a trip to the store for supplies…love that!
What kind of quick projects have you made with your fabric scraps?
