About two or three times a week, I’ll find myself telling someone new about Etsy. Someone might ask about something I’m wearing, which is often something from Etsy, or they might ask what kind of work we do, which brings up my Etsy shops and this blog.
I always start the same way: “Have you heard of Etsy.com?”
I was just reflecting on how often the answer is “No, what’s that?”.
I think it’s a great thing to hear people say no. If that sounds counter-intuitive, look at it this way:
There is no stopping this handmade train.
Etsy will always be a key venue for buying and selling handmade.
If Etsy is as wonderful as it is now, with only some of the people aware of it… how awesome will it be when everyone shops and sells on Etsy?
We’ve never done a reader poll before, but I’m curious… how often do you find yourself telling someone what Etsy is for the first time?

Sometimes when I wear my jewelry or a group of the ETSY women I know are talking, there is usually always someone around us who wonders what ETSY is and we find ourselves explaining to them about ETSY. I have noticed more and more sellers in my area these days!

This is exactly how I found out about Etsy. I was in a Rhode Island grocery store 2 years ago. I was carrying a tote bag I had made and a woman asked me where I had gotten it. When I told her I created it, she said I should have a shop on Etsy. “What is Etsy ?” I replied. She proceeded to tell me and I have never looked back!

I get more questions when I wear my creations, so I’m wearing them more often and make sure I have business cards handy. I actually found out about Etsy when a young girl in my neighborhood kept posting on Facebook the interesting things she found in the Etsy Shops.
