Homemade dog treats are the perfect way to pamper your pets!
I know I’m not alone in my love of dogs! I consider our dogs as a members of the family….spoiled ones, for sure!
In the past I’ve purchased homemade treats for them at a little pet boutique, but they can be pretty pricey. I knew I could make them myself WAY cheaper so I gave it a shot!
I LOVE the way these turned out and I plan on making them on a regular basis. At least I’ll know exactly what they’re eating, and they jump up and down for them so I’m pretty sure that means they’re yummy!
I used a dog cookie cutter that I found at Williams Sonoma. It’s a great size for big dog treats.
We have a new little puppy so I made mini peanut butter cookies for him…aren’t they cute???
Homemade Dog Treat Recipe – Peanut Butter Cookies
Ingredients:
- 3/4 cup reduced fat milk
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup peanut butter {smooth}
- 2 1/2 cup all purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon of baking soda
Preheat your oven to 325 degrees.
Whisk the milk, one egg and peanut butter together in a large bowl.
Add the flour and baking soda to create a lovely dough. You may need to use your hands to work in all the flour.
Flour a surface to roll out your dough. Cut out shapes like dogs, bones or make mini circle peanut butter cookies for small dogs. 1/4” thickness is awesome…but a little thicker works.
Make a quick egg wash by whisking together one egg and a couple teaspoons of water. Brush a thin coat on your dog treats before putting them in the oven.
I used an Airbake Insulated Cookie Sheet and parchment paper while baking. {These are two of my favorite things!} They equal perfect baking and no mess…that works!
Bake 15 minutes on one side and flip to bake 10 more minutes on the other side. {Don’t forget to brush on egg wash before baking!}
Remove and cool.
Store them in an airtight container for a week or in the freezer for up to 2 months.
Tie a few together and share them with your friends.
Now you have no excuse for not making homemade treats for your furry friends. They’re super easy and bake fast!
Have you ever made your own dog treats?

this dough has got to be missing something! I have had the hardest time trying to roll it out. We’ll see whether the dogs like it or not

my cavaliers love these! I just mention the word peanut butter and they come running. They sit in the kitchen and wait for them to come out of the oven!

These treats look delicious, I think I may have to try one. LOL And I love the dog shape, I definitely need to get one of those cookie cutters. I was wondering about substituting some of the ingredients. Do you think these would come out OK if I used almond milk? I was also thinking about using whole wheat flour.
I just know my dogs are going to love these treats, thanks for sharing. 🙂

I am making these for my grand dog I hope they turn out okay! I am going to dip them in melted carob chips for that extra special treat!

Should these end up being crunchy like milk bone dog biscuits? Or more like a human cookie? Mine were more soft and chewy, maybe I didn’t bake long enough or made them too thick!

give it a whirl. try putting 1 in micro w/o water. try 30 sec. cool. then see if it hardens.

Bed Bath and Beyond has cookie cutters shaped like bones. Also very cute.

I’ve made those before, but they could be a little big for some dogs. But, they are super cute! So, maybe a mix of different shapes would be best. 🙂 I wish I could find a mini bone cookie cutter.

I wish there were a substitute for that kind of flour as one of the dogs is sensitive to wheat.
