If you live in a cold climate, winter might be when you get “cabin fever”. Not so here on the Florida Coast. For us, the hottest months of summer drive us indoors! Sometimes the heat and humidity might as well be a pile of snow because it blocks the door just the same!
So when the weather turns gorgeous, like it is this weekend, I look for outside stuff to do. When all else fails, I grab some spray paint!
I’m stuck on spray paint!
I use it on just about anything that needs a little “SOMETHING” !
I’ve even used it on coconuts!
One of the reasons I love spray paint is because it’s so easy to change something from boring to “WOW” in just a few minutes! I don’t have time to sit and watch paint dry!
I’ll show you how you can change the way something looks without all the mess and time that goes along with other paints. No stir sticks and brush cleaning around here! All you need is spray paint, a drop cloth, and 10 minutes!
Here is how I did it:
Here’s a sign that I bought last week. It’s nice, but it wouldn’t really look right around my house. I planned on painting it from the start. When I see something I like in the store, I know that I can change the color without much fuss. That makes shopping sales, yard sales, and thrift stores more fun!
Start by finding a nice spot outside and get your paint and drop cloth ready. Set up your object in the center.
Choose your color, or colors. I’m using two today, but see the “Smile” sign at the end of the post for an example of using LOTS of color.
Spray it lightly all over, making sure you get each side that will be visible. Check it from all angles, and spray again. (You do want to make sure that you’re not too close to your work and that you spray LIGHTLY! This will keep you from having any problems with runs in the paint.) Let it dry. Well, if you’re only using one color…you’re done!
I used my second color on the bottom half spraying on an angle to help with the shading. I usually only wait a couple of minutes between colors.
Let it dry…it’s as easy as that!
Don’t be afraid to experiment with color in your house or yard! There’s really no wrong or right way to spray paint. And if you don’t like it you only need a few minutes to try out another color!
Get the good stuff!
Check out these great new colors…I love the names!!! Key Lime, Watermelon, and Berry Pink!
I found out the hard way about buying the cheapest paint out there. So, here’s my favorite…Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch! You don’t need two coats to get the vivid colors, and it’s great on metal! Low quality paint takes more coats and the colors aren’t as bright. Spray paint is way less expensive than buying a quart of paint that you might only use once! Oh, and you don’t have to wait at the paint department for them to mix it up!
Paint Everything!
This is one of my many starfish that I’ve painted and stuck somewhere in the yard. They’re inexpensive and I don’t worry about the hot sun ruining them.
I decorate outside and inside with spray paint. Here’s a sign that’s in my kitchen.
RELAX, SMILE, and spray something today! Before you know it…you’ll be stuck on spray paint, too!

Be still my heart – I LOVE spray paint! I use Rustoleum Painter’s Touch Ultra Cover 2X. The coverage is incredible and you can don’t have to keep the can upright; you can turn it every which way. And the same great colors.

PS and I live in central Texas where it gets plenty HOT, but not too humid, but it is NEVER too hot for me to be outside! It helps that I grew up in Northern Ohio. I saw enough snow there to last a lifetime!
